I recieved a cook book for christmas from my mother. All the recipes have eggs in them. Score for me, seeing as we always have TONS of eggs in the fridge unless its right after we gave some away. ANYWHO- the one recipe I've tried is the smoothy. Kind of. I don't really follow directions well, nor do I like to break out the measuring utensils. Expecially with this. I figured we aren't baking or cooking so it'll be ok. The general base of the smoothy is 1 cup milk (coconut, goats, soy, cows) about 1 cup fruit (it was a banana recipe but I'm not a huge fan of anything banana flavored unless it is in banana form) 1 tbsp ground flax seed (could use chia seed also), 1 raw egg, 1tsp vanilla. I've added (not all at the same time) Kale, spinach and honey also. Here is what I made this morning. Frozen cranberries, frozen blackberries (from our yard), Kale, 2% milk, flax seed (ground) egg and vanilla. Like I said I do not measure. If its to tart from the cranberries and kale I just add a little honey at the end. This little magic bullet is a permanant fixture on my counter. Between baby food and my smoothies it gets used every day. We recieved it as a wedding gift over 6 years ago. I'm a fan because I have large blender. I never use it because for 1 serving its a lot to wash. With this I can actually use the cup that I blend everything in to drink from. 1 less dish. (i have a large blender, where? I have no idea) Finished product. Nice light, fresh smoothy. I can't wait till spring and I can put some fresh herbs in it from my garden. Lemon basil, mint... yum.
Now, you are wondering WHY did I post this? I've been trying so hard to eat right but with 2 infants in the house it isn't all that easy. This is REALLY simple, no cooking (BONUS!) 1 dish to wash (if i don't pour it in a glass for the picture) ANNNNNDDDD it has started making me feel like I have SO much more energy. I tolerate crabby kids not napping better, I get more done, less break downs. Speaking of kids not napping...

I love it : ) I agree a regular blender is such a pain to wash all the time. .. Is it the flax seed that gives you energy??

I'm not sure if any of the ingrediants themselves give me the energy. It may be that I'm not starting my day off with whatever is in the fridge. Usually whatever we had for supper which is way heavier than most people would eat for breakfast. This of course is IF I have time to eat before lunch :S. Also, I'm not living on coffee and creamer all morning.

Thanks SO much for doing this post and I hope you'll do more in the future! I'm not much for following recipes either...for some reason, just seeing what you're using gave me the initiative to write it down with plans to use it as soon as I get my own 'blender'. SO if you feel like posting more of your mixes...I'd LOVE to see them!:)

Thanks Casey! I promise to post if i do any thing to different. So far I use what I have in the house since I dont' get out much! I stick with the base and then I have frozen fruits (strawberries, rhasberries, blck rhasberries, cherries, cranberries, blueberries) in my freezer because I 1 like them and 2 use the low alergenic ones for baby food... I may steel their blueberry ice cubes when I am out of the frozen fruit! SHHH dont' tell them! I think once summer comes around and we have all the fresh produce in the garden I may start thinking about doing veggie/fruit blends but until then... :)

UPDATE: got the NutriBullet and it really does work awesomely:) I whipped up your recipe above for Jacob and I this morning and it's great! I think I'm going to have to go the frozen fruit route till summer/garden too...buying fruit and veggies every week could put us in the poor house:(
