I have to admit I enjoy my "long weekends" with Benj, during this busy time of year I start to miss him a bit. Black Friday is not "black" because it's when retailers are in the black financially. It is the color of the emptyness of my wallet. I already had all my Christmas shopping done with the exception of my niece so I only bought stuff for Ben and myself. Got some good deals though and spent some time with my m-i-l, s-i-l, and a-i-l. Thanks ladies even though I showed up late and left early. I just am not a huge fan of shopping. Saturday Benj and I worked on picking up more scrap in the yard, cleaned the house (best we could). Benj got a few pictures, a mirror and curtains hung up for me. And I pulled our Christmas decorations out of the closet. Came to realize that I don't really have many decorations. At the rental I always cut pine bows and put lights in the bay window and on the fire place mantal (we never used the fire place). I have a homemade garland that I made a few years ago out of old fabric balls that Benj had gotten me at an auction (imagine that). A Christmasy table cloth, and a garland that has snowflakes on them... I'm hoping that when we get our tree it feels a little more festive. I do however have PLEANTY of Christmas napkins, I think I've gotten a new set every Christmas for the last 10 years... I love them all but thinking of downsizing my stash so if anyone needs any! Today we "tightened up" the "garage". Since we are hopeing to build a new pole shed next year we don't want to put to much effort into this so we put plastic on the broken windows and picked up a bunch of branches and cut a bit of firewood. Here is a before picture, it was to dark to take an after. The chickens kept us company the whole time we were working on the garage so I had to take a pic or two, or 22? Lucky for you I'm only posting a few. Mrs. Speckels is the black n white hen and then we have two Red hens affectioatly called "Red Hens". Their egg laying has been down quite a bit, I'm averaging one egg a day. I actually broke down and bought a dozen at Kwik Star (Love their 99cent eggs). Making egg salad is on my agenda for tonight. This weekend I have also been working on cleaning out one of the bedrooms upstairs. Besides the room that has the water heater and bathtub in it this is the worst room in the house currently so it is going to be the first one I really work on. Here are a few before pics. Not sure how long it is going to take me but it is next on my list. I can NOT forget to mention that my provider, my loving husband put more meat in the freezer this weekend. 2 more squirls. I have a old bird feeder that would work really well for a "squirl feeder", I have a great spot for it right outside the back door by the tree line. Very visable from the kitchen. *** Just took a pic of my homemade garland... here is is. Simple and rustic.

THanks giving #5 (from yesterday) I am thankful for the quite that comes with the first snowfall. (now if we just got some snow, please?) Thanks giving #6 I am thankful for all the "trying" times in my life, I have grown stronger because of them. Can you tell that school has started back up? My posts have been a bit lacking... I have a new go to cookie: My cookies to not look like these and I don't put the sprinkles on them because Ben said NO SPRINKLES! Recipe: And just a disclaimer, I modified the recipe. I do not own a zester worth zesting with so I don't put in the zest I put in lemon juice where the zest is supposed to go. And on a side note it is amaizing how much color is added when you use home grown eggs! I am very thankful for my chickens, just wish they would stop eating the dog food. Happy early birthday to Rachel. (at least that is what Ben told me.) I have no storage in my bathroom. Everything has been in boxes. The mountain of boxes in my house has been getting annoying so I found this cupboard at a antique shop near our house. No more boxes in my bathroom and still tons of room left in the cupboard. The great part is this picture makes me kind of glad that we knocked a wall out. This cupboard is where the shower used to be, the toilet and sink didn't move. That my friends was the size of the bathroom... and the sink was a cupboard sink so even less space! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! What was your favorite Thanksgiving dish this year?
I am thankful for a warm house, clean clothes, food on the table. We are blessed.
I am thankful for the opportunity to go back to school. Lets all just hope it all works out.
** I do have a few pictures to take and post but I am to much of a baby to go out to my truck to get my camera. We had a great weekend. Got the one shed cleaned out and a dog house built. Sunday we went to church, ran to and antique shop and watched the packer game! GO PACK 10-0! I am NOT thankful for the trapper who left a skinned raccoon somewhere that my dogs found it and drug it into my yard... A dead coon is discusting... a dead skinned coon is worse...
I am thankful for family. I wouldn't be who I am today without them. I am thankful for my husband. He his the half that makes me whole. He makes me laugh and is always there for me. There is noone else out there like him.
I love my husband because when we go to bed some part of him has to be touching me, no matter how many days in a row I tell him to get on his side of the bed. I love my husband because he sees all my flaws and loves me inspite of them. I love my husband because when I am sad he tries to make me laugh and always stays positive. I love my husband because he works so hard for our future. I love my husband because nomatter how scrubby I look he always tells me how beautiful he thinks I am. I love my husband because I can never wash dishes without him coming up behind me and giving me a hug. I love my husband because he pretends to like some of the things I like, even though I know he could care less. I love my husband because he is a provider, who else has venison, squirl, rabbit etc in their freezer? I love my husband because he is crazy like me. I love him because he makes me whole. With Thanksgiving comeing up I have been thinking about things I am thankful for. So up until turkey day I'm going to post things I am thankful for.
1st one on my mind today is: I am thankful for my old farm house and cold bedroom. I thought I'd post this one first because I have been thinking about how I LOVE our cold bedroom, on our way home from New Hampton today Benj said the exact same thing. We are thankful for the cold bedroom because we sleep so well.... Just yesterday I went out north of the barn on a walk. They had plowed around the stake marking the tiny little property marker. (See pic from previous posting). It wasn't easy finding it due to the residue still on the field but we found it and marked it. Today we noticed from the road it looked like they plowed closer to the barn yesterday. Yup they plowed right over the property marker and stake. No sign of either of them.
Wow... This on top of the fact that I specifically asked at closing if the LP tank was owned or leased... I was told owned....nsm. At least (for those of you who remember the lp tank debockle from our Beloit house) they didn't just show up and take it no notice no word on who took it. Things could be wrose I guess... What next? I have come to the conclusion that I am mentally ready to paint the stairway and upstairs hallway. Times like this make me wish I had child labor... lol. Just kidding, kind of.
Anyone want to help :D. Maybe I should ask if we could move Thanksgiving here and hand out paint brushes and rollers at the door... Now that sounds like a plan. Seriously though, can you get tennis elbow from painting? Wish I had taken a before picture of the window. There were a few pains that had come completly out of the window. I crawled outside on the porch roof scraped off all the old caulk and putty washed and recaulked it. Now it holds out a little more of the cold. A little Farrah Fawcett Anyone? When cleaning out the "Summer Kitchen" (found out its really "little grandmas" house) Ben found a bunch of these posters. When I say a bunch I mean like 50 or more. Not sure what he plans on doing with them... Any suggestions? Doe A DeerThis poster is "wallpapered" to the wall in the room we are sleeping in. I really wish I could find a "newer" one to put in Ben's hunting room. He loves it. It is rather large and not in great condition so probably no way of saving it.
