Got all the wall paper in the living room and (what we are calling) the office down. Whew that was work ;). Painted the ceiling in the office and started in the living room.
Ben got the sub floor put in in the bathroom. Waiting for our plumber to do the plumbing. AND we cant get the tub in until we get the new exterior doors. The tub is JUST bigger than the opening of the doors so we are going to hopefully find some new used exterior doors at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Des Moines not this coming week but the next. We got the weeds/trees pulled from the south side of the barn. I do not like scrub trees! Got a flat tire on the lawn mower :( and my lawn could use a good cutting. Fix one tire added to the to do list :S. This week I froze some creamed corn, canned beats and pickled some cucumbers and jalopano peppers. Been eating broccoli from the garden YUM! Jason Brown and the LoCash Cowboys at the fair in town. The LoCash Cowboys are good entertainers and great music. If you ever have the chance to see them its worth it. :) Apparently they are good at "corn hole" or beanbag toss. They challenged if someone thought they could beat them they'd take them to their next bigger gig with more famous singers in Mn with them on Sunday. So practice up! Yeah Ben and I didn't even THINK about it we are lucky if we hit the board :( If we had a board and bag set we could practice. HUM Christmas gift? Well, Ben is out changing oil on Daisy. I'd better get this taco dip made so we can head to the lake! Have a great weekend.

Last week I got an email from Ben saying that he got pooped on by a bird and broke a tooth all before having to go see his "favorite" customer. (hear the sarcasm?) I couldn't figure out why he had to get a new shirt, what did the bird DO that he couldn't just rinse it off with a wet towel... On the house Ben got the wall framed up in the bathroom. We brought home the tub, fixtures, and tiles. I started ripping down wall paper. What a tedious job :(. Today I froze some creamed corn. YUM! Spent the weekend in Des Moines on Sailorville Lake with some great wonderful friends! The weather was perfect (once it stopped raining) for a day out on the lake. I'm sure Ben and Matt are greatful that Bree and I now want a house boat. ;-).
My phone died on me this weekend. :-( I'm having bad luck with phones this contract period! Last summer I mowed over my phone and now this. Up till the tragic mowing death of my phone last year I have not had to replace a phone before my contract needed to be resigned. My last phone was 4 years old by the time I got a new one! Because of this I do NOT have any insurance on my phone. Thanks to the Schlichtings I think I have a used one by the end of the day! Now I'll We made it out to the new house by 3pm Sunday. We got more carpet/flooring pulled up. All is up now except for the carpet in one upstairs room and some lenolium in the living room. I really would like to know WHAT they used to attach this stuff to the hardwood floor... ugh! ****Remember under my "small projects" tab there is a little fun "contest" you have till the end of the month. Check it out!***** Canning today also packing some stuff (Ben got me some moving boxes!) and catching up on stuff around the houes because we were gone all weekend. I'm afraid that the lawn needs to be mowed again. I'm sure we'll make it out to the new house this evening. I have been a little lax in updating stuff but thats mostly because it was just to hot to do much and Ben had a really busy week at work. I hope to get a lot done this week. So make sure to check back for more updates! Just recieved in the mail a CD with a disclaimer "Playing this CD while driving is not recommended as it may cause drowsiness".
We were super motivated to get a LOT done on the house this weekend. However with this heat its nearly impossible. We got a good amount done on Saturday.
Ben did a little more work on the bathroom. He couldn't do to much until our plumber showed up to give us advise. (We can now slowly start puting it back together cus we have a plan!) I pulled up the carpetS in the living room (yes plural again!) but the several layers of lenolium type material is still there. We learned when pulling stuff out of the kitchen that if you take the carpet out and let the lenolium be exposed to the air it comes up a lot easier. I also started pulling boards off the old LARGE chicken coop thats falling over. I'm going to use them on the walls in my uninsulated entry. I'm going to put a coat of white paint on them once up. I'm hoping it turns out cute. Sunday we went to Waterloo after church to find a bathtub, sink, underlayment, flooring a bunch of little stuff etc. We came home with the bunch of little stuff and the underlayment. Have the tub, sink and flooring picked out. I suggested we wait on those because we don't have any good place to put them until we are ready for them in the bathroom. We were planning on going back out to the house that evening but I had a headache the whole entire day and it was just simply to hot out. Canned peaches and blackberries in the airconditioning instead. On that note Ben was going to take the week off to work on the house. I think we decided THIS week wasn't the best choice anymore. I feel we won't get near as much done as if it were cooler. Might as well make the most out of his time off. It just won't happen in this heat. :S Praying next week is a little less humid at least. Today is just to hot hot hot! I had to can beans and beats this morning. Times like this I thank God for ac. My B-I-L wanted to know (in response to my last post) if we had a basement. Yes, but its not a FULL basement. Which we knew, but we did not realize the plumbing issue. The partial basement can be explained simply because it is an OLD house and has been added onto. you can tell that the one living room wall was most likely an outside wall at one time because it is so thick. The foundation walls are as old as the house and about 2 feet thick made out of HUGE field stone.
I hope we have a creative plumber! The picture on the left, you can see daylight through the holes in the floor (this is where the shower was. The picture on the right is the only way to get to the plumbing under the bathroom. A hole in the foundation. There is heat tape wrapped around all the pipes under the bathroom. When we bought it this whole foundation on this side of the house was covered with insulation. Little did we know... I have a feeling that there isn't going to be much I can to change the layout of the bathroom, mostly because we will need to redo the foundation underneath the bathroom before we can do much of anything with the plumbing. But we will see what our plumber says.

Stopped at the post office in Charles City last week. We haven't even been getting junk mail, so I figured delivery was on a hold. I was asked to just leave a note with the desk attendant and they'd get it taken care of. Late Saturday afternoon I recieved a voice mail from the CC post office saying that the didn't know where that address was, and that I was supposed to call them back on Monday.
Yeah, all the paperwork is wrong wrong wrong wrong. It is NOT CC it is Ionia! Post office policy states that they have to return all mail because it's the wrong address. This means NO important paperwork regarding the property is getting to us. My realestate agent is fishing in Canada. (Can't blame him there!) and the bank lady isn't answering the phone. I so want to get this taken care of ASAP! I hope we don't have to be the ones to pay to have the abstract redone. How were we to know that the address we were given from the listing agent was wrong? ? ? ARGH! |
