Ben keeps telling me that he has NO pictures of me... I'm always behind the camera so.... This weekend I made him use the camera, he just keeps telling me he doesnt' know how to use it. LEARN! I think he did pretty good. Even though he didn't figure out how to not make me look fat ;) This was after picking berries for awhile. I had to wear ben's bibs because i didn't want to stain the maternity jeans I am borrrowing from a friend and you can't wear sweat pants that just doens't work... unfortunatly I was unable to button the sides... :S The next pictures is a picture of Ben's new strawberry bed. I had told him we weren't messing with another ADDING SOMETHING project like this until next year BUT when you get gifted so many strawberry plants there isn't much you can do about it! Thanks Jim. ;) Below: Me watching Timber watching Ben weed the garden... The next picture is Ben's new favorite place outside. :) He bought me this hammock (spelling?) in Mason City it was 50% off because the store was moving locations. He had to cut down one little scrub Aspen tree because it was in the way but this spot stays shaded 90% of the day. There's only a little bit of the morning when its in the sun. It is currently tied up with yellow poly rope, hoping to run accross some haymow rope or something more cute but the ugly poly rope is what we had laying around. He bought it for me but he is the only one who has used it. Oh well. I think he looks like he enjoys it ;) Other happeningsBen has been working on tearing down the old hog building. Slow progress when you are doing it yourself and trying to save some of the lumber. With the lumber he saves he is going to build a bigger chicken coop seeing as we have tons of chickens now :S. We picked out a screen door for the kitchen and that has been installed and is working! I love this because I was always leaving that door open to get fresh air but I hated the bugs that came in, problem solved. The garden is doing really well. Ben has eaten radishes, we've had lettuce and spinach out of it alread. Peas won't be long, beans all have buds, sweet corn is all ready about to tassel. Matoes and peppers all have baby fruit on them. Can't wait for fresh matoes! One sad note is I think it was to dry this spring we lost 3 of our 6 apple trees we grafted. They were all doing so well. All had leaves and them and looked great. I think the grafts just didn't seal correctly cus the tops of them just dried out while the root stock still looks nice and green and living... : Neighbors are great even if they aren't your neighbors anymore. Or A/C works again! Mark and Garla came over last night. 20 min later we had cold air coming thru our vents. We grilled out for supper and Garla swept my kitchen and bathroom, washed my dishes and put everything away. I've come to the conclusion I can't do it all and it isn't fair to ask ben to do it all... so THANKS GARLA! Ben went to an auction on Saturday and purchased a bunch of brand new insulation for $1. It will come in handy when we/he rebuilds the well house. gotta love auctions ;) Almost forgot!Ben called me the other morning right after he left for work. There was a snapping turtle laying eggs at the end of our driveway. We saw this last year but I didn't have my camera. I waddled to the end of the driveway with my camera this year and took a few pics for Ben. ;) The turtle however does NOT look to impressed with me being there!

its hard to see in this picture but in my garden is the deer, tweeter was passed out on the steps until I walked out of the house. I don't think he ever knew there was a deer in the yard because at one point the deer was maybe 25 ft from him. Sad. Where was Timber you ask? I have NO idea but he was there by the time the deer was on the way far south side of the yard. Don't look at these pics if eating animals offends you. Just saying. The sumo chickens are finally in the freezer! About a week or two after they should have been. Ben did most of the work but I helped a little and wrapped and labled everything. It was a nice "cooler" day to accomplish this task with the exception of the intermitant rain showers. But thats all they were was showers. No thunder, lightening or wind. Couldn't complain. The garden is planted and coming up!we may have over planted a lot of produce but I guess this way we can send home goodies with people who visit in Aug. ;) Apple trees!!!!I know this isn't the greatest picture but these are the 6 apple trees we grafted at Seed Savers. When we brought them home we were to keep them in the fridge for 3-4 weeks which we did. We planted them in the garden where we can keep an eye on them and keep bugs and critters from hurting them. They said we could expect about a 50% success rate seeing as it was our first time grafting. ALL 6 are growing leaves! Success!! 10 yes I said 10We had a bat issue in the ceiling above the porch where we've been sleeping. They weren't getting in the porch but they were annoying and loud. Ben sprayed a "critter repelent" around the eves for a few days in a row hoping most of them would relocated and then sealed off the cracks they were getting in. Yup well when you do that you should make sure they don't have an exit THRU the house! Now sure how but they were getting out of the porch roof into the bathroom. Ben got 10 bats in one night. I cowered under a blanket the whole time. Whats up with the rake you ask? Well, you see that what works best for fighting bats, didn't you know? despite the holes in my lenolium tiles in the bathroom it worked well. The vacuum also works when already dazed. Ben TOLD me he sucked up a bat with my brand new vacuum however it would have been REALLY nice if I had REMEMBERED he told me BEFORE it started to stink :S. Oops. CribsWho elses cribs arrive in style?
