The world outside our bubble.Although I am greatful that we are not in a drought, I am ready for the rain to end and water levels to go down. In my little bubble I call my yard, I don't see what actually is happening just down the road. Flooding? What flooding? Wind damage? Really? Apparently roads are flooded and washed out, fields under water, businesses in town are sand bagging. I count my blessings that my little bubble is all in order. No flooding, no wind damag. Just rain. I mentioned to ben how I may take the kids into town today to pick up some stuff. He texted me that the highway that goes into town is closed just a mile from our gravel road. Then I hop on FB and it looks like there was a train derailment because of damaged track from the water. Pictures of the river running through town are amazing. The dark murkey water churning and rushing over the dam. MAYBE we'll save our run to town for another day. Thankfully, they don't predict much damage (if any) to structures in town. After the flood in June of 2008 many buildings were bought out and removed from the flood prone areas. Here are some photos I got off our local radio stations FACEBOOK page. I didn't take them, obviously, because it is outside my safe little bubble surrounded by trees. Just a note to the 2 head cases who thought i'd be a good idea to "raft" down the river. That was one IDIOTIC idea! Cant help but to throw up some positive thoughts and prayers to those in Oklahoma. Hug your loved ones tonight! Our worldWhile people were in town filling sand bags, we were blissfully playing at home, enjoying the sunshine. We have been BUSY BUSY BUSY! (also going to buy stock in sunscreen!). We've been outside pretty much whenever the kids aren't sleeping. Snack times have been outside. Meal times are in their high chairs in the kitchen though.
They LOVE being outside. They get so crabby if you don't get them dressed and outside right away! They love watching the big chickens when they are out in the yard. The dogs get their fair share of pokes and pulls when they are sleeping near by. The cat gets grunted at. The kittens... well lits just say the kittens elisite (spelling??) squeels of joy and excitement from the kids. SOOO fun to watch. At night they LOVE to go for wagon rides. We check on the baby chickens, collect eggs, check the gardens progress and just in general check on the farm. I love this little bit of family time. Dad's home from work. Kids are fed and almost ready for pjs. It's our "down time" becore the kids go to bed. Because when they are sleeping its back to the grind stone doing things we didn't get done while the kids were awake. It's funny that even though I'm usually SO READY for them to go to bed, I find my self thinking about how much fun it'd be if they were outside with us. Miss them sleeping angels. One of the pics above is of the kids "helping" me weed the strawberry bed. They love to be outside and get dirty. The straweberries started to bloom yesterday. The rhaspberries Ben ordered this spring are starting to grow. The garden is 95% planted. Life is good. Side note. It's been soooo nice outside my too do list hasn't changed. "Wash the floors" may have been on my dry erase board for 2 weeks. Oops. Today is a bit cooler and a little gloomy this morning. Play time in the house! We'll see how today goes if we can't go outside because its a little to wet. Ok now off the net. I've got a over due to-do-list!!!

On the 9th I really should have been writing the kids's 10m update. BUT instead I put it off. I'm not sure how I feel about 10m. 2 more months and they'll be 1. Apparenty all my speaches about "not growing up so fast" and "you are NEVER going to have a 1st birthday" have fallen on deaf ears.
3 weeks ago both kids had 2 teeth. Today Tank has 4 with at least 2 more coming in (MAAAYYYYBE 4) Kaiters has 6! teeth with 4 more coming in!!!!! There isn't a day that Ben and I don't count our blessings. The kids were 6 weeks early but no medical problems and only spent 10 days in the NICU when we were told we would be there for close to 6 weeks. EVERYONE warned us of colic and how terrible it is. Besides Tank having a minor case of reflux there was no colic to be had. No late nights paceing the floors with a crying baby (or two). YES there were many tears but mostly from me. Sleep deprivation and having NO FRICKEN CLUE what you are doing will do this to you. Both kids took to sleep training very well. Neither had their days and nights backwards. Both kids put themselves to sleep like champs. We've heard about nasty blow out diapers when little ones are teething and the over the top crabbiness. Neither of which we've had. In 10m I've had to clean up only 2 blowouts (thanks Tank) and those were both in disposible diapers (NEVER have I had to clean up a blow out from cloth diapers). And as for grumpiness from teething I really can't complain. Naps were being cut short for awhile when Kait was cutting 4 teeth at the same time, but we just snuck in a quick 3rd nap and we were good to go. We have been blessed. I've been letting the kids climb the stairs when it is nap time. They get SO excited! I think its "extra special" for them because the rest of the day I'm constantly saying "NO!!! Don't climb on that" or "if you fall...."... Kaiters somehow in 20 seconds or less managed to get into the "bay" window in the dining room yesterday. About gave me a heart attack. I was sitting on the floor playing with both kids with my back to the window. One sec kaiters was right next to us and the next I hear her "yayayayaya"ing behind me. TEEPEE is almost finished. I just have a few weeds/grass to kill before I put dirt around it for the plants and I need to get some "floor treatment" so the kids aren't just sitting in dirt, but other than that it is standing and wrapped in grapevine. I'll post about it more when its finished. Garden is almost all in. Bit late this year but thats how we roll in these parts. We have been enjoying the wonderful weather that finally arrived. Yesterday was 97 so I got out the large metal wash tub and let the kids play in it yesterday. They had a blast! Lets hope we have some great weather for the rest of the summer! OHHHH I don't think i've mentioned but we have baby chicks again! so cute. cheep cheep cheep. The are living in the chicken coop ben made a few years ago. We'll adventually pen the meat birds in the grove and let the egg layers out with the rest of their kind. What little kid would LOVE to watch this excavator in their own back yard for the day? Although a bit young yet I know these kids enjoyed watching the CAT excavator for awhile. Alas, the perfect weather had to leave for a bit. Today it is rainy and cooler. Spending our time watching the rain fall WISHING we were outside playing! The LAST time I go looking for kittens in the hay mow....On April 18th 3rd Dog had her kittens. We have been keeping an eye out for them but have yet to see any sign of them. Tonight I went outside after the kids went down for the night. It was to cold to start anything outside so I decied to go "kitten hunting" in the hay mow.
Now, for those of you who grew up playing in a hay mow you learn the signs of animals laying in the hay in a particular spot, repeatedly. Or where they have been burrowing into the stack of haybales to stay NICE and cozy warm. JUST like a cat would do when she had kittens....... I was pretty excited to see a new worn "path" leading into the stack of haybales. I pulled a few back and felt something fuzzy. Deep down there was a little tickle in my brain saying "something isn't right" BUUUTTTT I was SO wanting to see those baby kittens! Since it was overcast, getting late and there is no electricity in our barn I decided to get a flashlight before I dug any deeper. Something told me I should SEE what I'm grabbing. I saw Ben behind the barn on my way back with the flashlight. OHHHH how is it one little beam of light can provide such a sense of security? Ben being 6'3'' stood next to the hay pile while I, a mear 5'2'' (On a good day)climbed up on top, eagerly telling him I found the kittens. Flashlight in hand I pulled some loose hay back. Silence. "Ben go get your gun, its a coon!" I ALMOST grabbed a sleeping raccoon!!!!! Needless to say, we wanted the coon gone. We are missing a chicken and judging by his size he is well fed. Could be my chicken, dog food, or quite possibly both. Ben willingly went to the house and came back. But he had to "make sure it was a coon". (Like I didn't JUST TELL him it was a Raccoon) Its like poking a sleeping bear. WHY?!? Pulling the rest of the hay bales away didn't wake him. You know how you can plant a seed in a CD Case and you can see it growing? Pulling the bales away was kind of like that. The coon was currled up in a ball. Half his nest was gone, but he was just laying there, sleeping. We could have watched him forever. (EASIEST TARGET EVER). Throwing things at him didn't do a thing. Poking him with a shovel didn't do anything either. Literally using the shovel as a lever to lift him up did the trick. NOW you'd think a sleeping, obviously SOUNDLY sleeping raccoon would wake up a little groggy and be a little slow. One would THINK this but, one would be WRONG. DEAD WRONG. Said sleeping raccoon would wake up scared and pissed and run right towards MEEEE! The one without any defense weapon (other than the flashlight which now provided NO sense of security) Lets just say there is no body. No proof of anything. The dogs down on the ground under they ladder failed when the coon ran, bolted, climbed, fell down the hole/ladder. Apparently if it isn't DEAD already they aren't interested any more. I am no longer interested in finding those damn kittens who I KNOW are so cute and cuddly.... I'm not speaking of todays weather. Mother Nature is on my shit list. Dangle a carrot and then take it away. HOW RUDE! Anywho. I realized it has been awhile since I posted and pics of the kids. I really should have had the camera outside with us that past weekend. Highs in the mid 70's. PERFECT. We spent a lot of time outside. The kids got a wagon for Christmas. We set it up this weekend and took the kids for a ride. Tank liked it a LOT more than his face shows. LAST garage sale season I picked up a "Play Hut". I got it out for the kids to play with one day. I think Kaiterpiller liked it. Tank was to busy taking off his shirt the hard way.... |
