Being our anniversary I decided to make something different than my normal meals. I went out there and worked really hard to thaw out some really really really awsome chili that Ben had made and froze. THEN I figured I should make a fresh loaf of bread. My older, wiser sister picked me up a bread machine because she just loves hers! (Scored this one for $9 at a resale store) She was here at the begining of the month and I have yet to touch the thing because I've just been to busy to sit down and figure it out. Sigh. Today was the day! I made this awesome Challah bread to go with the chili and any leftovers I will make into french toast for breakfast. If you know me well enough you know that I have an inablity to follow recipes mostly I eyeball measurements, I really don't like washing dishes. So this is the recipe I looked at. I'm sure I got it close. I did stick it back in the oven for a few more min to get it a little more golden brown, in my dark kitchen and oven without a light it looked a lot more golden than it actually was.

So, I've been selling stuff on craigslist. Mostly stuff that has worked its way to the surfaces in any of the buildings that I just can't see burning. Some of the stuff just has so much potential, and I know someone out there will appreciate it.
A guy from CC came to pick up an old saw. Told him how to get to my place and he's like "OH, the YOUNG farm." I had to ask him if someone was murdered here or something because EVERYONE knows exactly where and who's place this was. Kind of creepy. But luckly he said he just knows the place because he was good friends with Eva Youngs grandson, they went to school together. (Huge sigh of relief!) We are ready to install our out door woodburner this weekend! Which is a good thing. There has been a 4ft deep trench across my driveway for over a week now. It is time to fill that puppy in! Not to mention it will be one more thing to cross off our to-do-list! We had to enlist a neighbor with a crane truck to come lift it off our trailer and place it on the cement slab. It quite possibly could be the largest outdoor wood stove you can buy. You could almost LIVE inside it! But this house will need it. Plus, when we adventually build Ben a shop we will heat it off the same wood stove so we'll need the extra capacity. I realised just now that I have yet to take a pic of Ben's wonderful job of filling in the hole that was in our foundation. I know I married that man for a reason! ;) He actually has asked me if I posted a pic of the fix-it job so I had better do so soon! Ok, knowing that nobody has lived in our house is almost a year I realize there are mice. Although I have not SEEN them they leave "evidence" all over the place. About 2 weeks ago I decided to war against their infestation. Victory is mine! However, they get the last laugh. The whole herd of them died in my basement. For the love of all things smelly!!!!! And of course they can't conveniently die in the middle of the floor where you can find them and get rid of them...I feel bad for Ben and Mark who have to do some work in the basement so we can get our outdoor wood stove hooked up.
I now have a working bathtub/shower, toilet and sink. I even have hot water! Thanks to Mark for coming out on a Saturday to help figure it out!! The red and blue lines on the walls... what are they you ask? simple answer. Waterlines. Since the house is going to end up in a hole we were not going to rip the walls apart just to run water lines... this was the boys' solution...
I know the trim needs to be painted and the ceiling needs to be fixed and painted. The door also has to be put on and trim done around that... but it is a clean functional bathroom! I'm currently looking for a tall cupboard to put in the corner between the sink and toilet for storage. Ben also fixed the hold in the foundation. Why it got left in this condition it was for 50ish years (even 1 year) I do not know. I was going to take pics of his fix but I forgot last night and tonight it was raining. (no grumbling about the rain here, it was nice for a change!) Today (Sunday) we got a late start because the alarm didn't go off. Ended up going to 1030 mass. Then had to listen to the packer game on the computer because we don't get FOX. (You would think this is the end of the world if you talked to Ben) So we didn't get out to the house until about 3:30 PM! But we cleaned up the bathroom and kitchen. Put the last of the painted cupboard doors up, and started peeling the lenolium off the walls on the "back splash" of the counter. ICK! I have the 1st coat of drywall compound up. Hope to get it done and painted by the weekend. I also cleaned the laundry room floor and just put a coat of Polyurethane on it. First coat down and taking forever to dry! With the rain it is pretty humid so not much is drying. Oh well. I finally got my computer back! They weren't kidding when they said 2-3 weeks... they use EVERY bit of that 3 weeks. We have been getting more done on the house. The bathroom is almost put together. I have a working toilet which is the best thing ever! We will be able to put in the sink as soon as we paint the walls. TEXTURED PAINT HIDES A WHOLE LOTTA UGLY!Back room/office I could have cleaned up Ben's work clothes and the blankes from the weekend but that required more ambition than I had after painting for a few hours :S. The walls are just a bunch of paint mixed together kind of tanish and then the trim is all "Bread Loaf". I used this same color on the trim in the living room and white ish walls (still just a bunch of paint dumped together minus the tan. In both rooms on the walls I used textured paint because of all the cracks and patches on the walls... I have never been a fan of textured alls until now. After I painted the first room with the textured paint I came home and told Ben, "Textured paint hides a whole lotta ugly". Oh yeah and Ben keeps reminding me that I should put this in my "MIA" section but the floors are Made In America... they were kind of easy to lay once we got the hang of it... lots of cutting and it would have been nice if the trim boards weren't on the wall but oh well... we may just invest in the little "corner trim" to cover up the little gaps we have between the wall and the floor... For cheeper flooring I think it turned out well. BATHTUB!Ok so the bathroom is a little further along than this... but here is Ben mudding the seams on the drywall around the tub. I will try to remember to take more pics of the bathroom this weekend. Maybe if we run to wloo I might buy a curtain rod and shower curtain. Think I'll hold off on new rugs until the kitchen is finished and we aren't walking around the house with shoes on so much. |
