We have had so many visitors in the week and a half that the munchkins have been home, grandparents, aunts and uncles. It was great to have everyone meet the kids but it'll be nice to spend some time with just us and the kiddos. They change daily. Today was the fist day they were awake long enough for quality tummy time. My sister and I took a bunch of pictures for announcements, here is a sneek peak. Appologize if everyone doesn't get an announcement. It's the thought that counts right? Can YOU tell who is who? Chicken coopBen and his dad have been working on the bigger chicken coop. They started it the weekend after the kids were born and now after this weekend its almost finished! Then we just have to put up a new taller fence and then NO MORE CHICKENS pooping all around the house... 3 chickens I could handle, 20 not so much. I'll get pics sometime today hopefully.
Babers had their first official dr appt today. Their DR didn't look much older than they are ;) despite the fact that he hardly looks old enough to drive let alone be a DR. He was great with the kiddos and explained everything to me and was very open to my crazy questions. The kiddos: Josiah is now weighing 5lbs 11oz. He weighed 5lbs 5oz at birth. Kaitlin is now weighing 5lbs 9 oz. She weighed 4lbs 9 oz at birth. She is gaining on her brother quickly. Eats like its going out of style! I had to laugh their card we got at the end of the appt puts both kiddos in all measurements at 5%. This however does not take into consideration as they are still not even age adjusted to term yet. My babies are peanuts! Their next appt is in 2 weeks. Hope they keep gaining weight. I need fatter babies so their cu GardenObviously it has been a busy last few weeks. However, canning season has started. Our peas are done and pulled. I managed to get about 1/2 of them shelled and frozen before the babies arrived. Visitors got the rest in the freezer for me along with freezing some beans for babers. We have also gotten some beans, carrots, sweet corn and beats canned. We still need to make some freezer creamed corn, freeze some squash, can peppers, freeze peppers and MAYBE make some pickles. Other than that not a ton has gotten done around here besides wehn the babes were still in the NICU Ben and his dad got a start on the new chicken coop. I'll be happy when that and its fence is done. Currently we have 2 dogs and 20 chickens eating out of 1 dogfood dish. I was ok with 3 chickens having the run of the yard but 20 is a bit much!
Babies made it through church on Sunday without crying. Yay! But not without stinking up our pew. PEEEEWWWW. :S We MAY have caused a traffic jam on our way out of church. EVERYONE wanted to know all about the babies. Here are a few pics from the last few days. babies got to come home today. now we are busy finding our groove and catching up around the house. here are a few pics from today. I'm only posting pictures from today and not explaining them because I don't want to jynx anything... I guess there isn't much to update, they continue to amaze me each day with their progress in eating. They have been nippling the majority of their meals. So much closer to no NG tube! And that means that much closer to coming home. When I showed up to the NICU this morning Josiah was in a basinet! He was able to regulate his temp by himself for 24 hours. Sorry no pics today. Maybe next time.
Both babies are still doing great. They had both been put on billilights for a few days but are both off of them now. Makes holding them so much nicer! Kaitlin should be out of her isolet today and into an open basinet. She was able to maintain her body temp on her own for over 24 hours. Great job little lady! She is still a little spitfire and lets you know when she is NOT happy. Josiah was able to keep his body temp regulated on his own for several hours but over night he got a little cold so no basinet for him yet. But getting close. Poor little guy pukes every time he gets his NG feeding but is just fine when bottle fed. This is our main hurdle. The babies are so sleepy they don't wake up enough to eat so have to be feed NG. (Feeding tube thru their noses). They are up to eating out of a bottle every other feeding (4). We just need to build this up to 8x per day and they can come home. Every day they do a little better. Please keep them in your prayers. They sure are so blessed to be so healthy. As for the NICU in Waterloo. The staff is so great with the babies, and well I guess they are good with us too. The let us be hands on when there and answer all our questions. Each nurse has their strong points so it is nice to have a variety of personalities working with the kids. They are in good hands and makes leaving them so much easier as we live an hour from the hospital. the babies also had their first visitors. All 4 grandparents came from Wi, our friends from Des Moines came up with their two kiddos all this weekend. My sister and her two boys will get to visit this week! They are here to help out at the house and keep the garden in check. Help is awsome. I had better go take a nap :) b Who knew that when I posted the poll on when the babies would arrive that 2 days later I'd be admitted to the hospital and 2 days after that the babies would be here?!?! I sure as heck didn't! Before I tell you all about our little angels I'll give you the all desired pictures. :) About the BabiesThey were born just shy of 34 weeks. Josiah was put on room oxygen for about 8 hours and then was taken off. Kaitlin was breathing with no support from the begining. By the next day each kiddo had their IV lines taken out and had their feedings increased. By thursday (4 days old) they each took one feeding out of a bottle. AWESOME step for them! Each baby is on the Billilight because they are a little jaundice but its nothing to be really worried about. They realy look like little glow worms when their light is on.
We are working towards 2, well 3 goals before they can come home. 1. They can eat all 8 feedings from a bottle 2. Their jaundice clears up and 3 they don't get sick. Can't wait for them to come home! I have to say after sitting in the NICU and hearing all the monitors going off we realize just how blessed we are that our babies are doing so well. Their monitors only go off when they kick off a sensor. It's hard to think how all of this could have turned out. God is watching over them! I know I don't have a ton of pictures. It's hard when they are in the NICU. I'll try to get more and post updates as soon as I can. But I don't have a computer at the hospital so it has to wait till I get home have have to force myself to sit. It's hard to sit still when I haven't felt this good in months. :) We really appreciate all the well wishes and people checking in o Keep us in your prayers. Comment on this post and get in on the "Arrival Poll"My due date (if it were only one baby) would be Aug 22nd. They don't usually let twins go past 38 weeks.... When do YOU think the babies will be here?
